RANCHO MURIETA, CA (MPG) - A 79-year-old Rancho Murieta woman died following a golf cart accident on Alameda Drive, south of Murieta Parkway, on March 4 at approximately 2:42 p.m., according to Officer Trent Senter, spokesperson for the East Sacramento office of the California Highway Patrol.

Senter said the victim was traveling northbound on Alameda Drive when, “for unknown reasons, the driver allowed the golf cart to collide with the concrete curb and dirt/rock median.” He added, “At this time, it is unclear whether the driver suffered a medical episode that led to the accident or if she sustained injuries as a result of the crash.”

An ambulance transported the driver to Mercy Hospital of Folsom, where she was pronounced dead. A 78-year-old female passenger in the golf cart was uninjured, Senter said.

According to the CHP incident report, the accident occurred at 7000 Alameda Drive, the location of Rancho Murieta Country Club. The report also noted that firefighters initiated CPR upon arrival.

Other residents identified the victim as Ruth Dragas. She was a longtime Rancho Murieta Women’s Golf Club member, according to Jan Valine, the club's captain.

“She was a strong example of resiliency, displayed through her weekly golf outings with the Women’s Club and friends, even though she had physical limitations,” Valine said. “She was a very good person who was supportive of her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.”
